Welcome to Behind the Lines, a weekly conversation with Salt Lake Tribune cartoonist Pat Bagley and BYU economist Val Lambson.

Bagley: It has been a year since Behind the Lines was introduced to Tribune readers. I thought it would be a good idea to revisit the first column, which recaps the curious journey which led childhood friends—one a BYU economics professor and the other a political cartoonist—to amiably discuss and disagree about politics and cartoons.
