Re "Hatch to force vote on Obama's welfare plan" (Forum, Sept. 12):
Sen. Orrin Hatch actually favors granting waivers to states on certain rules for welfare that will give them more flexibility while boosting the move from welfare to work.
But because the gridlocked Congress didn't originate the idea, and the president did, Hatch is leading the charge to stop this measure, even though it's aimed at lowering unemployment during the recession.
Hatch doesn't know what's good for the state of Utah or the country.
