One of the frustrating things about Mitt Romney has been that he was fuzzy about what he would actually do as president (besides repeal "Obamacare"). His lack of specifics seemed calculated not to offend anyone and certainly to avoid harsh rebuttals or critical debunkings. I didn't like his no-specifics approach, but given America's electoral process, I understood it.
Now, in selecting Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., as his running mate, Romney has bought into the most detailed, ultra-conservative, government-dismantling plan around. A plan full of specifics that doesn't add up and that scares seniors, moderates and independents. What was Romney thinking?
Is he so afraid of his party's right wing that he had to throw them this red meat so that they'd enthusiastically campaign for him? It's too high a price to pay.
