How Canada does it

Recently I was in a rock shop in Moab and met some vacationers from Canada. I asked them how they liked health care in Canada. They said it is great.

A family pays only $95 a month. There are no co-payments, no deductibles, and all people get treated.

I asked about waiting for surgeries. Elective surgeries may take six months to a year, but life-threatening ones are immediate. If you don't like your doctor, you can get a second opinion.

Why is this not what we should expect in the United States? I pay a $500 deductible, $35 co-pays, and an 80/20 split on hospital bills. I have good insurance and still pay more than $2,500 a year out of pocket for a family of three — if we don't have any major surgeries!
