Mike Lee ran as an expert on the Constitution. He may be able to quote the document, but does he understand its intent? Especially concerning representation.
I occasionally contact state and federal legislators regarding issues. Former Sen. Bob Bennett faithfully responded to questions or comments. Sen. Orrin Hatch responds with boilerplate comments. Rep. Jim Matheson's responses are often well thought out.
Lee does not have the courtesy to respond with even an acknowledgment that he received my emails. I assume that:
• He does not believe it necessary to respond to constituents, or
• He believes he is responsible only to some constituents (tea party?), or
• He has never actually taken the position of senator.
Lee clearly does not understand a senator's responsibility to respond to his constituents.
It is unfortunate that Utah's Legislature does not have the constitutional authority to pass a recall law.
