Re "Mormon group quits LDS Church en masse" (Tribune, July 1):
In the past, I always thought The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was indestructible. That was perhaps because even after I left the church 25 years ago because I was gay, part of me still believed the church might be "true."
But with this latest mass resignation of people, and the continuing loss of good members over the gay issue, for the first time I felt fear for the LDS Church's future. Despite the problems I have with the church, I don't particularly want it to cease to exist. But like any other organization with poor management and out-of-date policies, it is in danger of collapsing if it doesn't do something to stanch the bleeding.
Being honest about its past and acting humanely toward all people would be a step in the right direction.
