Re "Offensive gay displays" (Forum, June 19):
Wade Marshall Miller doesn't think gays should be treated seriously because he "witnessed some of the 'acts' that the gays were doing on one of the [Pride Parade] floats. … Men dancing in what looked like their underwear, making a spectacle of themselves, behaving in a manner I felt was offensive."
I understand Miller's sentiment. This year for spring break I visited a lovely beach only to find it full of half-naked straight college students in swimwear dancing around making fools of themselves. Imagine my surprise when I visited New Orleans for Mardi Gras, only to find drunk straight people everywhere, and I don't need to reiterate what some were doing to get cheap plastic beads.
If these heterosexuals want the continuing respect of the gay community, they're going to have to work harder on their lifestyle choices and behave in a credible fashion, all the time. The actions of those straight people sure made me, a gay woman, think about what shame they must cast on heterosexuality. Tsk, tsk.
