Mitt's magic wand

Mitt Romney was briefly in town to raise money, and "supporters attending the fundraiser agreed that Romney has the know-how to fix the laboring economy" ("Romney tells Utah audience president out of touch on economy," Tribune, June 9).

Wayne Webster said, "We don't have a president who has ever had to run a business or meet a payroll." Other supporters said they trust Romney to solve the nation's economic woes.

How naive and, frankly, lacking in ability to comprehend the plethora of problems that concern our nation. President Barack Obama has unlimited access to the finest, best-educated and experienced minds for advice.

Solutions are not as simple as electing Romney. Do millions believe that Romney holds a magic wand?

If Romney is elected, social programs will be slashed, environmental concerns will be ignored, the middle class will fall further behind and the poor will become poorer still — yet the rich will become richer.

This little planet cannot sustain thoughtless procreation, exploitation of all natural resources and selfish monetary greed. Unless people take seriously the health and welfare of this nation and this planet, future generations will not be able to count on a habitable earth.
