Insulting assumptions
This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2012, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

Congratulations.

The two June 2 headlines for the same story succeeded in insulting the intelligence of both black people and Mormons: "Black Mormons face historic choice" (on the front page), and "Will black Mormons vote their race or religion?" (in the Faith section).

Most Mormons I know (I am not a Latter-day Saint) are voting for the candidate of their choice because of his qualifications, not his religion or race.

To assume that Mormons and black people are so stupid to vote for a candidate for religion or race is naive and insulting.
