In "Council meddling" (Forum, May 30), Tod Young of Granite complained about meddling by members of the Salt Lake County Council in Mayor Peter Corroon's selections of a 15-member, blue ribbon commission to review the county's Foothills and Canyons Overlay Zone. His letter contained some inaccuracies.
First, I have never asked to make any appointments to this commission. I'm perfectly willing to approve the 15 people nominated by Corroon.
Second, other council members did, as was their right, suggest that a couple of other individuals be considered for appointment. This was proper, as it was agreed when the creation of this commission was first discussed that up to three council members — or three people nominated by council members — could be appointed to this commission.
The council is not unduly meddling in the affairs of Mayor Corroon. The council has only asked that its input on an important county issue be respected and considered, as was initially agreed.
