Re "Utah schools rank last for lessons on condoms" (Tribune, April 10):
Regarding condom education or lack thereof in Utah, I congratulate the approach encouraged by Dalane England of Utah Eagle Forum. It has been proven time and again that the best way to address an issue is to pretend it doesn't even exist.
Like so many other things in life, if you ignore teens having sex, it will just go away.
We all know that teenage kids never have sex, right? So there's no need to cover all those uncomfortable and awkward topics and health-related issues involving teens having sex.
"The more you talk about sex ⦠in a public setting you're going to get more of it," England said. "When you talk about abstinence-only ⦠you get more abstinence."
Would that mean that the more I talk about shooting a 75 on the golf course, the less I would shoot a 110? Can we wish something and make it so?
Plus, we all know that the only teenagers who are having sex are the bad kids. Let them fend for themselves.
Utah, can we please exit the 1950s soon? June and Ward Cleaver have left the building.
