Billboard glare
First Published Feb 09 2012 01:01 am • Last Updated Feb 09 2012 01:01 am

With all the hubbub surrounding electronic billboards, there’s also a safety issue. Never mind that these billboards are an eyesore day and night. Or that our legislators are up for sale for campaign donations.

My problem is this. Due to corrections in my glasses for astigmatism, stars protrude from every light I see at night. At night, these billboards are twice as bright for me, equal to looking into the sun in the daytime, or at least having someone come head-on at you with their brights on. This makes it quite difficult to see.

I can’t see (no pun intended) why we would want to have more of these electronic billboards. To be sure, they catch your eye, quite literally for me. And just like TV commercials, I ignore their messages completely.
