As I walked to my car in the American Fork Target parking lot, I noticed three young children alone in a car. The kids looked in age to be about 9 months, 3 and 7.
I did not want to scare them so I sat in my car until the driver returned. I waited and waited. After five minutes, I called 911. Another 10 minutes passed.

Finally, a young lady came out and got into the car. Having worked in Child Protective Services, I felt someone should tell her that she had endangered her children.
I got out of my car and asked her if she realized the danger she had put her children in. She said she was sorry. I told her not to apologize to me but to her children. The police did not respond.
The dangers of leaving children in cars are well-known, but a reminder won’t hurt: Cold weather can cause hypothermia, hot weather can suffocate, and sadly, there are people who prey on kids.
