Marriage counseling

So now some in the Utah Legislature want to require individuals seeking a divorce to take a class. At that point, I suspect few marriages will be saved.

As conservatives point out: It is better to put a fence at the top of a cliff than to station an ambulance at the bottom.

If the state is going to mandate couples classes, require them in order to obtain a marriage license. A few ounces of help on communication, conflict resolution and finance, plus a few compatibility exercises, would prevent pounds of curing heartache and wounded children.

If we’re going to be a nanny state, let’s do it right.

Also, requiring first-time parents to take parenting courses would save money spent in remedial schools and prisons.
