DST memories

The day after the Legislature began, Rep. Jim Nielson, R-Bountiful, sponsored House Bill 199 that would eliminate daylight saving time by mandating that Utah observe Mountain Standard Time throughout the year.

When I think about this proposal, memories swirl in my head: Those late afternoons when I would take my sons to Farmington Pond to get in a few hours of fishing before the sun went down. Or barbecuing in the backyard, watching the sun go down, enjoying every morsel and moment. Even sitting out on the front porch, having a snack while chatting with my wife.

All these memories are related to daylight saving time and the extra hour it affords people to be outdoors after work. What foolishness it would be to eliminate daylight saving time.

I’m all for having it 365 days a year so I still can enjoy as much of my life and free time as possible.

Life is short. So is daylight. Let us enjoy both as much as we can.
