In "Taxes out of control" (Forum, Aug. 3), Ray Sine claims that it isn't fair that he pays the same taxes as his neighbor with four kids while he only has one child remaining in school. He apparently had others who already went through the school system, since his son now has children in a charter school.

Sine himself must have had a rock-bottom (in funding) Utah education or he would realize that the elite charter school his grandchildren attend is also financed by the Jordan School District, as are all charter schools in the district. So why shouldn't his son contribute to Jordan School District on his property taxes?

I no longer have children in the Jordan School District, but I would gladly contribute even more to the school system if it would better prepare our students for college and post-high school jobs with optimum classes in math, science, English and history. Forget the schedule-filler elective classes.

Utah students are being dumbed down, and our teachers are extremely underpaid for this important job to our community.

What's clearly out of control are class sizes and lack of funding for schools.
