A 42-year-old woman was in critical condition Friday after being shot in the leg while walking along a South Salt Lake street.

South Salt Lake police Lt. Gary Keller said the shooting occurred at 6:38 a.m. Friday as the woman, walking near a Mormon chapel in the area of 3350 South and 300 East, heard gunfire — and then felt a bullet strike her leg.

Paramedics responding to 911 calls found the woman collapsed on the street and suffering from significant blood loss. She was rushed her to the hospital, where she underwent surgery.

Detectives did not immediately have suspect information, but hoped nearby video security cameras may help develop leads.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SSLPD at 801-840-4000.
