A Provo woman left her purse and a 9mm handgun in her parked car while shopping. Now police are looking for the man they believe broke into the vehicle and made off with both.
Provo police say the vehicle burglary occurred about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Home Depot at 1550 S. University Ave. The woman locked the car and went inside the store for about 30 minutes.
When she returned, she found a window in the car had been broken and her purse and her husband's handgun missing. The woman next checked her bank account online and found her debit card had been used at a Springville Wal-Mart.
Police were able to obtain images of the suspect from the store's security video camera, and on Tuesday released the images in the hope that someone will recognize the man.
He is described as a white male in his mid-30s with auburn hair and a full, closely cropped beard. He was wearing a BYU baseball cap with white sunglasses resting on the brim, a gray T-shirt with a gray long-sleeved shirt tied around his shoulders.
The suspect also was wearing a wristwatch on one hand and a white rubber wristband on the other.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Provo police at 801-852-6255.
