A Colorado motorcyclist died Saturday in Utah after he hit a tree that fell in front of him seconds earlier.

The man's identity was not immediately released, pending notification of his family.

About 12:40 p.m. Saturday, Boy Scouts were cutting the down the tree at the same time he was riding north on State Route 12 in Garfield County. The tree then fell in front of the motorcyclist and he crashed into it, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

"It appears to investigators that this was a case of unfortunate timing," according to a UHP news release.

The motorcyclist had been about halfway between Boulder and Torrey when the crash occurred. He was wearing a helmet.

The Scouts had a permit for cutting down trees for firewood, and it appears nothing criminal occurred, according to UHP.
