Utah's paradisiacal late-week forecast is the kind Thornton Wilder might pull from a cosmic mailbox, addressed to the Beehive State, USA, North America, Western Hemisphere, Earth, the Solar System, the Universe, the Mind of God.

"Our Town," or your town, wherever you are in Utah, Friday's weather will be Autumn at its best. Along the Wasatch Front, whether the locale is urban or rural hamlet, temperatures under mostly clear and sunny skies will range into the low-70s after overnight lows in the 40s — an echo of Thursday's forecast.

Add 10 degrees to the daytime temperatures and predawn lows, and otherwise you have the same forecast for southern Utah, albeit with a slight chance for showers.

Relish the balmy interlude in nature's march toward colder weather, and a reprieve from the digging out from storage of woolens and winter coats. Wilder put it this way: "My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just to enjoy your ice cream while it's on your plate."

The metaphorical dollop of chocolate sauce and sprinkles on that scoop or two is provided by the Utah Division of Air Quality, which predicts "green," or healthy breathing conditions through the coming weekend.

However, the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website did list sagebrush as "very high" and mold as "moderate" on its pollen index as of Thursday.

Well, nothing's perfect. After all, ice cream melts when it's warm — but it still tastes pretty good.
