A 20-year-old female was seriously injured Tuesday when her Jeep missed a curve on the North Ogden Divide and crashed into trees in a rocky ravine 40 feet below.
Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay said the 10 a.m. accident, near the town of Liberty, was the second in two days where deputies were dispatched to the scene to find a vehicle had tumbled over the edge.
This time, the crash appeared accidental. Findlay said an accident on Monday, in which a woman drive drove her truck off the road, was believed to have been a botched suicide attempt.
As for Tuesday's crash,"Early indications are the brakes went out on the Jeep as it traveled northbound down the steep decline at a high rate of speed," Findlay said.
A passing motorist spotted the wreckage and called 911. Deputies arrived to find the woman complaining of chest pains, difficulty breathing and that she could not feel her legs.
The woman was taken by helicopter to an area hospital in serious condition.
