Utah County Search and Rescue crews located two male hikers stranded overnight on the Bridal Veil Falls trail and safely led them back down early Monday morning.

The men were examined by paramedics and found to be chilly but in good condition. They were released about 6 a.m. , public safety dispatchers confirmed.

The duo, who were lightly clad and not prepared for near-freezing temperatures when darkness fell Sunday night, were forced to halt their descent about halfway down the mountain. They called a friend, who flagged down a deputy patrolling in Provo Canyon, to report their situation.

Sheriff's Deputy Doug Willes said rescuers were able to reach the hikers on their cellphones. They were located about 4:30 a.m., checked out and led back down to the trailhead parking lot.
