A Murray man has died after nearly drowning in a fishing pond.

The 37-year-old man was at Willow Pond Park (6059 Murray Parkway Ave.) with his wife and children Saturday afternoon, playing with a remote-controlled boat on the pond, said police Sgt. Mike Obrey. About 3 p.m., the boat began experiencing some problems, so the man swam out to it, Obrey said.

In the process, he went under. Bystanders went in and pulled him from the pond, but he later died at the hospital, Obrey said.
