The Utah Highway Patrol found itself short on leads Thursday, after a late-night shooting on State Road 201 in southwest Salt Lake County left a man in serious condition.

A 911 call reporting the shooting came in from the area of 4700 West and SR-201 at 10:48 p.m. Wednesday. The victim was conscious and communicative when transported to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

Details were sketchy, but UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said troopers were told that the victim was driving an eastbound car in the highway's middle lane when a white, four-door sedan pulled up on its right side and someone inside fired several shots.

One of the bullets struck the driver in the torso, Royce said.

Troopers initially had little more to go on than that vehicle description. Still unknown: how many people were inside the suspect vehicle, descriptions of the suspects, whether they were acquainted with the victim, or what may have led up to the shooting.

A passenger in the targeted vehicle was unhurt.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to called UHP dispatchers at 801-887-3800.
