A man's foot was severed in a Monday night crash on Bangerter Highway in West Valley City.

The man lost a large amount of blood after the crash near 3500 South, but as of Tuesday afternoon was expected to survive, said West Valley City police Lt. LaMonte Cox.

The man was driving a pickup south on Bangerter about 11:15 p.m. when he tried to turn left onto 3500 South, police said. The truck collided with a northbound car whose driver allegedly ran a red light.

The driver of the pickup was critically injured with a severed foot; the driver of the car and a passenger in the pickup suffered minor injuries, police said.

The northbound lanes of Bangerter Highway remained closed throughout Monday night into Tuesday morning. The crash remains under investigation.
