Taylorsville Elementary School was locked down briefly on Monday afternoon due to a report of a man with a gun — a report which remained unsubstantiated nearly an hour later.

Granite School spokesman Ben Horsley said the brief lock down — which was lifted at 3 p.m. — was precautionary and based on an unverified report.

Nevertheless, Unified Police Det. Ken Hansen said the officers would remain at the school until all students had left for the day.

Hansen said that at about 2:30 p.m., someone came into the school, located at 2010 West Mantle Ave. (4200 South), and reported seeing a man in a blue hoodie with a rifle.

Officers contained the area and searched the school without finding anyone of that description, Hansen said.
