West Valley City police are searching for whoever shot a 72-year-old man at his front door.

The man was in critical condition Sunday after the shooting at his home, located near W. Meadowgate Drive.

About 10:40 p.m. Saturday, he and his wife had just come home from a date when there was a knock at the door, said West Valley City Police Lt. Dalan Taylor.

"The victim opened the door and was immediately met by gunfire," Taylor said. The man's wife heard the shots and went to see what happened when she saw him on the floor and a male in dark clothing running away, Taylor said.

Investigators have no other description of the suspect and are still trying to determine a motive. The police are asking anyone with information about this case to call them at 801-840-4000.
