Rocky Mountain Power crews moved quickly early Friday morning to restore power to an estimated 3,000 west Salt Lake City customers.

Thunderstorms and lightning moved through the 84116 zip code in the predawn hours, and soon thereafter sections of the Rose Park and neighboring districts went dark due to several separate, but closely located outages.

By 7:30 a.m., crews had restored power to all but some 800 customers. Byt 10:30 a.m. repair crews reportedly had services fully restored.

Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Margaret Oler said lightning strikes were listed as the cause, along with a downed line or two.

The outage also affected several west Salt Lake intersection traffic signals and briefly left West High and Jackson Elementary schools open, albeit without electricity.
