Services will be held Friday in Price for Alejandro Ramirez, who died Tuesday in an accident at the West Ridge coal mine near East Carbon.

Ramirez, 46, will be buried in Price's Cliffview Cemetery following a 10 a.m service at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 E. Main St.

A shuttle-car operator, Ramirez was working alone near the entrance to one of West Ridge's longwall mining sections when his piece of machinery bent, crushing him in the cab.

There were no witnesses, according to a preliminary investigation report by the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

MSHA inspectors from the Price field office are conducting a detailed review of the fatal mishap, the first in Utah's coal mining industry this year.

West Ridge mine is operated by a subsidiary of Murray Energy Co. Another Murray Energy subsidiary ran the Crandall Canyon mine in Emery County where nine died and six were injured in a pair of implosions in 2007.

According to his obituary, Ramirez was "well liked and respected by his co-workers at the West Ridge Coal Mine for his excellent work ethic."

He was born April 25, 1968 in Sinaloa, Mexico, and married Alejandra Valdez in Huntington in August, 2005.

Survivors include his widow, Alejandra, of Price; children, Yan Carlos (Brittnie) Arroyo, Siklalic (Humberto) Garcia, Francisco (Ruby) Sebreros, Fred Sebreros, all of Price, Iliana Sebreros, of Salt Lake City; six grandchildren.
