A Vernal man died Saturday night after his all-terrain vehicle crashed in Uintah County.

Alan Heiner, 37, was riding an ATV north on 3000 West in the community of Maeser when he failed to negotiate a turn near 2000 North, according to a Uintah County Sheriff's Office news release. About 9:20 p.m., the ATV went off the road and struck multiple road signs, rolling once, the release adds.

Heiner was thrown from the ATV as it rolled, and died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the release.

Speed is believed to have factored into the crash. The Uintah County Sheriff's Office is still investigating.
