Police are looking for a man who tried to steal the purse of a woman riding in a wheelchair on a southwest Salt Lake City street.

Salt Lake City police say the 60-year-old woman was rolling home about 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of 1100 W. 400 South when the suspect first grabbed a bag from her lap and also then tried to take her purse.

However, the woman had secured the purse with a strap around her body. When a vehicle began backing out of a nearby driveway, the would-be thief gave up and ran away.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-6 Latino in his mid-20s, of stocky build, with a shaved head and tattoos on his arms and face. One tattoo on the side of his head was the number "13," while an "M" was etched onto his neck.

Police said the woman was unhurt.
