A Lil' Wayne concert ended without much more than the usual hip-hop drama of the rapper's rhymes. But in the USANA Amphitheater parking lot afterward, booze-fueled fisticuffs and gunfire punctuated the night.

West Valley City police Lt. Dalan Taylor said alcohol enforcement officers from his department and the Utah Highway Patrol issued numerous citations for under-age drinking — and that was just the beginning of what became a wild night.

About 12:15 a.m. Friday, as cars crawled, bumper-to-bumper, to exit the concert, one driver apparently erupted in road rage. The driver of a dark brown Chevrolet Nova repeatedly honked at a van stuck in the traffic in front of him, then pulled into the oncoming lane, firing one gunshot into the van as he passed.

The bullet fragmented and lodged inside a door of the van but did not penetrate the interior; none of the van's seven occupants was injured, Taylor said.

Police were on the lookout Friday for the Nova's driver, described as a Latino teen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black "L.A." cap.

Meanwhile, a WVCPD officer attempted to break up a fight between two men and ended up taking two punches to the face from one of the combatants before another officer used a Taser to shock the suspect into submission.

The 26-year-old suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of class A misdemeanor assault on a police officer. The man was released on his own recognizance pending court proceedings.

Taylor said the officer was not seriously injured.
