Salt Lake Community College is expected to pick a new president Thursday.

Three finalists for the job met with students, faculty and others on campus on Wednesday in advance of interviews Thursday.

Finalists for SLCC president include Deneece G. Huftalin, Tony Miksa and Christopher Villa.

Huftalin is now SLCC Interim President and has worked for SLCC for more than two decades. Miksa has served as the vice president of academic and student affairs at McHenry County College in Illinois, and is also in charge of human resources there. Villa has worked as vice president of student services at Fresno City College since 2009.

On Thursday, the State Board of Regents will interview the finalists in closed session. Regents might then hold a public meeting at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday to select a new president, or they might meet a different time to do so.

SLCC's presidential search committee selected the finalists after reviewing 55 applications submitted through a nationwide search.

Salt Lake Community College graduated its largest class in its history this spring, with 4,218 students. That was about 10 percent larger than last year as students who set enrollment records starting in 2009 finished their educations.

The previous president, Cynthia Bioteau, led the school from 2005 until last year, when she left to become president of Florida State College at Jacksonville. —
