Police arrested a violent ex-con after he allegedly fired a handgun from a passing pickup truck toward the west Salt Lake City home of his girlfriend.
SLCPD officers responding to a 911 call about 12:30 a.m. Thursday say several witnesses, including relatives of the woman, recognized the gunman as her 36-year-old boyfriend.
As he drove the truck past the home in the 1100 N. Redwood Road (1700 West) area, residents heard the gunshot and saw accompanying muzzle flash. No one was hurt.
Officers quickly located the vehicle and took the suspect into custody. Inside the pickup, police say they found a stolen silver 9 mm handgun and a shell casing.
What prompted the incident was under investigation.
The suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County jail, where he was being held in lieu of nearly $6,000 bail on suspicion of third-degree felony counts of aggravated assault, possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm by a restricted person
He also faces multiple misdemeanor counts ranging from assault, criminal mischief and domestic violence in the presence of a child to theft and battery.
