Initially hot and then cooler temperatures, breezes and a smattering of rain are forecast for northern Utah's Labor Day weekend.

The unofficial last weekend of summer will, in fact, feel a lot like autumn, the National Weather Service predicts.

Along the Wasatch Front, Saturday will bring sunny skies and daytime highs near 90 degrees, but by evening breezes will pick up to the 10-20 mph range and bring a chance of thunderstorms. Sunday's forecast calls for markedly cooler temperatures as the mercury dips into the upper-70s.

Southern Utahns receive a similar weather pattern. Saturday's forecast calls for highs around 100 degrees, but southwest winds of 15-25 mph will herald the arrival of a slightly cooler air system. Highs on Sunday for Utah's Dixie? Try the low- to mid-90s.

The Utah Division of Air Quality graded most of the state as "yellow," or compromised; only Cache, Washington, Duchesne, Uintah and Carbon counties earned "green," or healthy assessments in weekend projections.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website listed chenopods and mold as "high," ragweed and grass as "moderate" and other allergens "low" on the pollen index as of Friday.
