Autumn-like weather in August? Northern Utahns might as well keep an eye out for the Great Pumpkin, albeit clad in shorts and sandals if it's headed south.

After a wet Wednesday forecast for valley rain and, at the highest peaks along the Wasatch Front and Uintas, traces of snow, Thursday was expected to herald a drier, warmer trend stretching into the weekend.

Still, a hint of approaching fall was in the air: Thursday's daytime highs in northern Utah were to be in the upper-70s to low-80s with overnight lows in the 50s.

Summer's grip was firmer in southern Utah, though. After thunderstorms and rain showers on Wednesday, Thursday's forecast for Utah's Dixie called for sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid-90s — up 5-7 degrees from Wednesday.

The Utah Division of Air Quality graded Salt Lake, Davis, Utah, Weber, Tooele, Washington, Duchesne and Uintah counties as "yellow," or compromised; the remainder of the state was "green," or healthy for Thursday.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website listed chenopods and mold as "high," grass as "moderate" and other allergens "low" on the pollen index as of Wednesday.
