Multiple law enforcement agencies raided a Magna home early Monday morning, arresting two suspects in a still ongoing investigation into the theft of firearms and gear from several Heber City SWAT vehicles.
Heber Senior Police Officer Xela Thomas said officers from her department, joined by Wasatch County sheriff's deputies, Unified Police and a UPD SWAT team, served a search warrant on the residence at 2870 S. 8900 West about 4 a.m.
Nine people initially were detained and questioned before two male suspects — 41 and 50 years old — were arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of receiving stolen property and weapons violations.
On Friday night, the Heber Police say someone stole a badge, an AR-15-type rifle, Glock pistol, shotgun, body armor, helmet, SWAT uniforms, ammunition and other police equipment from an undercover SWAT vehicle. A second vehicle at a house four doors away was burglarized and a third vehicle was stolen, according to the police.
On Sunday, Heber police announced that the stolen vehicle was found in Salt Lake City.
On Monday, two of the stolen firearms were recovered, but other items taken remained unaccounted for, Thomas said.
Citing the fluid, ongoing nature of the investigation, Thomas declined to specify which of the stolen firearms had been recovered.
More arrests were anticipated as officers "actively pursue leads and process forensic evidence," she added.
Thomas said "anonymous tips" led police to the Magna home.
