A woman was in serious condition Thursday, the day after she allegedly triggered a three-vehicle accident in St. George.

The 9:15 a.m. Wednesday accident occurred when the woman's southbound blue Mitsubishi SUV swerved into the northbound lane of Dixie Drive near Parkside Circle. St. George police Sgt. Sam Despain said the vehicle then sideswiped an oncoming red Mazda SUV before crashing head-on into a red Hyundai Sonata.

While the driver of the Mitsubishi, who regained consciousness at the crash scene, suffered suspected internal and head injuries. Initially considered as critical, her vital signs had stabilized on Thursday at Dixie Regional Medical Center.

The female drivers of the other vehicles escaped with minor cuts and bruises.

Despain said that while it appeared clear the Mitsubishi's driver was at fault, what caused her to swerve into oncoming traffic remained under investigation.

Police did not release the names or ages of the drivers.
