Price man jailed for allegedly running down rival twice
A Price man has been arrested and booked into the Carbon County jail for allegedly twice running over another man intentionally, and then speeding away from the scene.
Price police Capt. William D. Barnes said Monday that Matthew Alan Thatcher, 33, was being held without bail on suspicion of first-degree felony attempted murder following the Sunday attack.
Barnes said a 911 call reporting the incident came in at 6:40 p.m. Sunday. A 32-year-old man, who had been riding his bicycle near 670 E 400 S. in Price, was found at the scene and rushed to the Castleview Hospital emergency room.
Barnes said Monday that the man was in serious condition but expected to recover.
Assisted by Carbon County sheriff's deputies, Price police developed information leading them to Thatcher's 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee and arrested him at his home.
Police say the two men had an ongoing, unspecified adversarial relationship, and when Thatcher saw the victim riding his bike he allegedly decided to run him down. Thatcher purportedly ran over the victim again when he got up from his toppled bike and tried to run, Barnes said.
