Police say one man shot another in the leg early Sunday after losing a fist fight.

The owner of a home near 950 S. Navajo St. was throwing a party that grew beyond his control, said Salt Lake City Police Detective Cody Lougy. He started asking some people to leave, but a man who was not invited "became agitated" and the two started arguing, Lougy said.

"They both then started to go outside to the street and fist fight it out," the detective said. "Basically the [homeowner] won the fight out in the street, and the suspect didn't like it, and his friend actually gave him a handgun."

A little after 1 a.m., the suspect then shot the homeowner, reportedly in the leg, Lougy said. The homeowner is in serious condition but his injury is not expected to be life threatening, he said.

Police are still looking for the suspect.
