Six people were hurt Saturday after someone opened fire in a downtown Salt Lake City club.
The shooter was inside Inferno Cantina, at 122 W. Pierpont Ave., when he opened fire about 11:45 p.m., said Salt Lake City Police Detective Cody Lougy. Six people were hit, with injuries ranging from minor to "very serious," Lougy said. While their injuries are not expected to be life threatening, the detective also cautioned that it's still early into the investigation.
"As soon as [officers] arrived, they noticed hundreds of people leaving the club," Lougy said. As everyone else ran, the suspect fled the scene with at least one other person in a black Cadillac CTS, he said.
"And as they were fleeing, it looks like they attempted to run over a security guard," Lougy said. "And as he got out of the way, he noticed one of those individuals waving a handgun out of the window."
The armed guard for the club pulled his own handgun and fired at the car, though Lougy could not immediately say whether he hit anyone or how many rounds were fired.
The Utah Highway Patrol later found the Cadillac near 2320 S. 1650 West. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Salt Lake City earlier in the night, Lougy said.
The suspect or suspects are still at large, and the entire Salt Lake City Police Department's homicide squad is working the case, including talking to witnesses and reviewing security footage.
