Two teen girls were in serious condition Friday after the ATV they were riding was hit by a car on a road in Utah County.
The two 15-year-old girls were riding with friends Friday morning when they tried to cross State Road 73 near Five Mile Pass, according to officials. While crossing, they were struck by an oncoming PT Cruiser.
The driver of the car tried to stop, according to officials, but hit the ATV broadside, sending the driver over the top of the car. The passenger was also thrown from the ATV and landed on the road's shoulder.
Neither girl was wearing a helmet, officials said. The ATV driver was flown to University Hospital, while her passenger was taken by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center.
"It appears that they didn't look before crossing the road and [this] would have been an easily preventable crash," Utah Department of Public Safety spokesman Joe Dougherty said in a statement.
