Salt Lake City police say they ended a metal bar-swinging man's destructive rampage with a shock from a Taser after he went from smashing car windows to attacking them instead.

Officers were dispatched about 8 a.m. Thursday to the area of 900 South and 200 West after a 911 caller reported the suspect was breaking car windows with a large metal bar.

Police located the man walking on the nearby TRAX light rail lines. When confronted, he allegedly faced off with the officers, swinging the bar baseball bat-style at them while shouting for them to shoot him.

Instead, an officer dropped the 22-year-old man by deploying his Taser. Officers then subdued him, booking him into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of multiple counts ranging from criminal mischief and trespassing to aggravated assault on a police officer.
