The Utah Highway Patrol on Tuesday released the identity a man killed in weekend crash on Interstate 80 near East Canyon.
UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said Marc D. Curtis, 48, of West Valley City, died when the stolen Nissan he was driving crashed about 8 a.m. Sunday morning on I-80 near mile marker 133.
Troopers suspect that drugs or alcohol, along with excessive speed, played roles in the crash, but it remained under investigation. Furthermore, Curtis was not wearing a seatbelt, UHP said.
The westbound vehicle ran off the highway to the right, striking a parked and unoccupied Ford pickup truck and trailer.
According to state court records, Curtis had a rap sheet going back more than a decade that included numerous counts of theft, burglary, possession of stolen vehicles and forgery as well as driving while under the influence of alcohol.
