South Salt Lake • Police fatally shot a man near a South Salt Lake 7-Eleven Monday night.

A 911 call came in at about 7 p.m. near the 7-Eleven at 2102 S. State Street reporting a man waving a gun. Three Salt Lake City police officers responded. They saw three men exit the convenience store, and one man matched the description of the armed man, said South Salt Lake Sgt. Darin Sweetin. Officers asked the men to show their hands. The man who matched the description became belligerent, and he was subsequently shot about 10 to 15 minutes after the initial 911 call.

It was unclear how many shots were fired or which officers did the shooting. All three have been placed on administrative leave. South Salt Lake is investigating the shooting.

Police did not release the man's ID Monday night, and his body was still lying in the 7-Eleven parking lot at 11:15 p.m. Police did not disclose whether the man was armed or if any weapon had been found.

The two other men who were exiting the store were taken in for questioning. It was not clear whether those men had any connection to the man police shot.
