Three family members were taken to the hospital after their small plane crashed Sunday in a West Jordan park.

The plane took off from South Valley Regional Airport about 9 a.m. but soon crashed in a soccer field near 8000 S. 4570 West, said West Jordan Police Sgt. Dan Roberts.

Witnesses saw the plane go down and rushed to help, pulling the three people out before the wreckage caught fire, Roberts said. A man — who was the pilot — his wife and their adult daughter, all from Boise, Idaho, were taken to the hospital.

Video of the crash, uploaded to YouTube by a bystander, showed smoke billowing from the crash site. Firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze.

While the mother’s and daughter’s conditions were not immediately available, the father was listed in critical condition, Roberts said.

"We’re hoping cautiously that they are stable," Roberts said.

The National Transportation Safety Board will take over the investigation into why the plane crashed.
