Unified Police were trying Wednesday to determine what caused a man to lose control of his SUV and fatally crash into a home in Taylorsville.
UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said William Nichols, 51, of South Jordan, was critically injured in the 10:30 p.m. Tuesday crash at 3627 W. Christy Ann Drive (5460 South). Nichols later died at the hospital.
Two people inside the home were unhurt. The house sustained a cracked foundation when the white Chevrolet Suburban collided with a corner of the residence, but a damage estimate was not immediately available.
"Investigators spoke with a witness [who] saw the vehicle ... traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic. At this time, we don't know why the driver was driving in that manner or what caused him to crash into the house," Hoyal said.
Investigators were looking into whether drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, Hoyal added.
The crash severed a natural gas line, but Questar crews quickly repaired the damage.
