Salt Lake County's recycling office is making recycling bins available free of charge to groups for community events.

County Recycling Coordinator Ashlee Yoder said the offer is designed to help residents meet a challenge issued last year by Mayor Ben McAdams, who wanted to see a 20 percent increase countywide in the volume of materials recycled by 2015.

"We'll be able to track how much is recycled using the bins and factor that in as we crunch the numbers on our path to increase recycling by 20 percent," she said, noting that event organizers are required to keep track of how many plastic bags they fill.

The recycle bins were obtained through a grant from Keep America Beautiful and The Coca-Cola Foundation.
