Utah Forecast: A chance of storms and still hot
First Published Jul 27 2014 09:50 am • Last Updated Jul 27 2014 11:25 am

A chance of stormy weather will not do much to weaken the heat.

Meteorologists expect a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms across much of the state on Sunday afternoon and into the evening. There could be isolated flash flooding in areas with dry washes, slot canyons, slick rock areas and small streams in steep terrain, according to the National Weather Service. The monsoon weather could also bring debris flows to burn scar areas.

The chance for both increases on Monday, according to the weather service.

The possibility of wet weather will not do much to alleviate the heat, though. High temperatures are expected to reach 98 degrees Sunday in Salt Lake City, and 103 in St. George. Into Monday, Salt Lake City and St. George can expect more of the same with highs of 97 and 99, respectively.

Air quality remains less than healthy across much of northern Utah as well. Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber and Box Elder counties are all forecasted to have only moderate air quality Sunday and Monday, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality.
