The crash happened about 1:30 p.m. on State Road 73 near mile marker 31, according to Cannon. Hancock was a passenger in a Chevrolet Cruze driving west. Bailey was the only person in a Ford Fusion driving east.

A press release from the sheriff’s office said a witness saw the Ford across the center line, striking the Chevy. Hancock’s father was driving the Chevy and her 10- and 7-year-old brothers were in the car, too.

The press release said an open bottle of alcohol was found in the Ford and investigators are determining if it played a role in the crash.
